One of the best places to stay on Lord Howe Island if you want to be near the hub of local life is the Blue Lagoon Lodge. Lord Howe Island doesn’t have a huge range of amenities, but this resort is just minutes from the restaurants and stores that keep the island humming.

Everyone from singles to couples and families will feel welcome at the Blue Lagoon Lodge. These self-catering apartments range from tidy studios to spacious two-bedroom units, all of which are among the most affordable accommodation on the island.

Besides being great value for money, Blue Lagoon prides itself on the cleanliness and ambiance of its rooms and surrounding gardens.

This lodge is managed by the descendents of one of the founding fathers of Lord Howe Island, so Blue Lagoon Lodge has a long history of providing friendly, island-style hospitality to its guests.

The lagoon itself is just 200 metres from the resort and very close to the post office and other island amenities.

All of the apartments have a kitchenette, giving the units that home away from home feel. You can buy supplies from the general store on the property or venture down the road to the market.

The incredible weather of Lord Howe Island makes for perfect barbecuing, and the resort has placed several outdoor barbecue grills next to verandahs around the garden. It’s easy to mingle with other guests or to find a quiet nook to relax in privacy.

Although there is no restaurant on site, some great restaurants are just a short walk away. The resort has a games room where you can play table tennis or billiards.

There is also an all-weather tennis court outside. If you want to explore more of the island, car rental is available.

Although you could feasibly walk anywhere on the island, a car makes it easy to explore both the northern and southern ends where volcanic mountains wait to be hiked and pristine beaches are ready for sunbathers, swimmers and snorkellers.

Lord Howe Island is home to the world’s southernmost coral reef system, and the scuba diving and snorkelling here is outstanding, with over 500 species of fish and 90 species of coral.
