Golf on Lord Howe Island

Lord Howe Island is more than just a spectacular, sun-drenched beach holiday destination. This small South Pacific island is a fantastic place for an activity-based getaway too. Even though the more active events like hiking, cycling and surfing steal much of the spotlight here, golf at Lord Howe has become a favourite among travellers too.

Golf on Lord Howe Island

There is only one golf course located on the island, but it is commonly regarded as one of Australia's most exciting nine-hole courses. The Lord Howe Island Golf Club was first established in 1979, and has since developed into a challenging yet appealing course that is fit for golfers of all levels.

This magnificent meandering course hugs the island's beautiful coastline, and also travels through the breathtaking Kentia Palm Forest. However, arguably its most alluring feature is the neighbouring natural peaks – Mt Lidgbird and Mt Gower, which overlook the fairways and greens.

Golf at Lord Howe Island can be experienced year-round, seven days a week. Of its nine holes, the course offers five par threes and four par fours, making it possible for even the average golfer to complete a round of golf in just a few hours. This gives visitors plenty of time to explore the many other dazzling attractions that rest across Lord Howe Island, and won't take too much time away from the family.

Guests don't have to bring their own clubs to enjoy a round of golf at Lord Howe, as the island's golf club offers both left- and right-handed equipment hire at a very reasonable price. Adults can enjoy a nine-hole round for only a very reasonable outlay, while children under 12 are half price. Golfers can enjoy a weeklong pass, which saves even more and includes both green hire and clubs. Bookings are not necessary.

Each year, several golf tournaments are held on the island. The largest and most successful is the Lord Howe Island Golf Tournament, which is held each November. At Easter, there is another tournament which is also open for visitors and locals.
